![]() Fancy DiamondsAlso known as colored diamonds, fancy diamonds actually come in every color on the rainbow, unlike what most people believe. More common colors in these exotic gemstones are yellow, brown, blue, and black. Pink, red, green and purple colors are extremely rare and sell at higher prices per carat than any other gemstones. Also, who can forget the famous blue Hope diamond sitting in the Smithsonian museum - one of the most famous colored gemstone in the world. The only problem with colored diamond is that they are too rare. Only a few thousand carats of them are mined every year compared to the millions of carats of white loose diamond. And out of those, most of the colored diamond roughs can only be cut into tiny gems weighing barely a few points (there are 100 points in a carat). On the upside, the values of these gems are never lost. Throughout the decades, colored fancy diamonds have mostly doubled in price every five years or so. Even during the worst market conditions, the prices of a colored diamond only moved horizontally on the chart - so if you've got the cash, go for it! |
